New York City skyline from NY Harbor. Large abstract impressionist original oil painting, green and gold. I saw this storm approaching New York City one day, from a barge out on the middle of the Hudson River. It was a profound moment, the energy in the air was eerie and powerful. It was frightening and exciting at the same time.
I painted this at a time when I was leaving my home in New York to live elsewhere. Looking back I remember a feeling of fear, excitement and sadness. This was my way of saying goodbye to NYC, watching it fly past me as I swept away in the current.
I’ve used deep organic greens and dark golds for the ocean and commanding clouds, with a contrasting horizon sky in bright & smooth yellow highlights. The shimmering ocean bubbles are in violate, gold and teal. The clouds have varying deep blue accents, and the speeding city is based in taupe, featuring warm purple and rose undertones. I’ve signed the painting in the lower left corner.
