Fall Autumn Sky

Part memory and part of what I imagined (or wanted) it to be, looking up through tree to a golden autumn sky.

Standing by a large tree in Riverside Park NYC, I was inspired by the sheer power of its size, as I stood at the base looking up. That something of this impressive magnitude could be strong and alive, but also be in a deep slumber, awaiting spring. I realized there must be great power in knowing one’s direction.

I really wanted to stick to two simple color families that are my favorite for this one, a combo of blues and golds. I used varying blues from dark to light as the base of the tree grows upwards. There are a few shadowy hints of indigo & purple. Set on the background of a warm golden sky with a few touches of vibrant orange. I used large flowing strokes to create the dreamlike feel I imagine looking up through the tree.
